It’s a fair question, and one we get asked often. With a dozen other methodologies competing for attention, it’s reasonable to wonder whether a framework launched by the UK Government back in 1996 still has anything to offer. Elite Training NI has been running PRINCE2 courses in Belfast for years, so we’re not exactly neutral on this. But the honest answer is yes, and here’s why.

PRINCE2 has been updated repeatedly since its original release, most recently with the PRINCE2 7 update. The methodology has kept pace with how projects are actually run today, including how it works alongside agile ways of working rather than against them. This isn’t a dusty relic being kept alive out of habit.

Employers still ask for it. Job listings for project managers, coordinators and business analysts regularly name PRINCE2 as a desired or required qualification, particularly in construction, IT, engineering and finance. A widely recognised qualification on your CV still opens doors, and PRINCE2’s structured approach to governance and risk is something many organisations value precisely because it doesn’t change with every new management trend.

PRINCE2 isn’t trying to be agile. It’s built around clear stages, defined roles and solid business justification at every step, which suits projects where accountability and structure genuinely matter. If your projects involve multiple stakeholders, budget sign-off or compliance requirements, that structure isn’t old-fashioned. It’s the point.

If you manage projects where clarity of process protects you and your organisation, then yes, PRINCE2 training remains a solid investment in 2026. Our PRINCE2 and project management courses cover Foundation, Practitioner and combined options, with pass rates well above the national average.
